PE is a thermoplastic material which, with its characteristic of high resistance to permeability of methane gas, is presently used for conveyance and distribution in place of traditional metallic materials. With PE 100, which is more resistant, more rigid and stronger than PE 80, also the size range has expanded and presently reaches OD 500 mm NP 16 bar for molded fittings; greater sizes are made with segmented fittings. PE 100 pipes up to OD 2500 mm NP 10 bar are available, while the PE 100 RC line is currently limited to OD 1200 mm NP 16 bar.
In addition to gas distribution, PE 100 is very common for aqueducts, since it is approved for the conveyance of drinking water and food, as mentioned in ministerial circular letter 102. PE, thanks to its black color, is extremely resistant to UV rays and, consequently, suitable for installation above the ground, which is impossible for yellow or blue PE materials. PE materials whose color is other than black can be used for underground or covered applications only.
PE 100 RC has been designed for NO-DIG applications because of its characteristic of high resistance to the slow creeping of breaks and guarantees an operating life of 100 years against 50 years, as it is currently requested for PE 100. These characteristics are defined in PAS 1075 and Hürner Italia S.r.l. offers all of the three types of execution.
PE 100 can be welded to PE 100 RC with no restrictions whatsoever.
