Thanks to its high rigidity and self-extinguishing properties, this gray fire resistant polypropylene is used for low thickness pipes and fittings for the conveyance of vapors and gases and industrial ventilation. It is gradually replacing PVC also in the construction of stacks, hoods, etc. Its fire resistance rating is B1 according to DIN 4102 standard and V-2 according to UL 94 standard.
Contrary to PVC, in fact, in case of fire PPS does not release hydrogen chloride, which is very toxic, as everybody knows. Mechanical resistance is very high, since its basic material is a homopolymer, but has the same limits as non-UV resistant materials.
