PVC - Polyvinyl chloride - is a thermoplastic material featuring high mechanical and chemical resistance, which has massively replaced traditional industrial materials, like ferrous and non-ferrous metals, particularly in industrial applications.
Since it is easy to joint by chemical bonding , it requires no special equipment and is easy to lay down. Therefore, it has been the first material that entered the metal ducts domain. Simple, quick and less expensive.
PVC is chemically very resistant to liquids containing free chlorine and guarantees that welds do not deteriorate because of oxidation, which, on the contrary, damages other materials. An additional advantage of PVC is that it is self-extinguishing. Anyway, in case of fire, the material burns and releases hydrogen chloride, which is toxic.
For industrial applications requiring high temperatures, PVC-C - Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride - has proven to be a good solution, economically interesting and that can be worked like PVC. The benefit of PVC-C is increased by its fiberglass reinforcing , which increases mechanical resistance and operating temperatures.
