Lining of metal products

The reason for the line of Hürner Italia Srl liners for metal products is the cost effective result

Liners for metal products, which are usually tanks, reactors, basins, individual components like rounded or conical bottoms, or industrial process exhaust treatment columns, is the cost effective result that is achieved by joining lower quality, yet mechanically very strong metals with a thermoplastic lining that is selected according to the chemical attacks of the fluid contained. The much more expensive alternative to this solution is making the full equipment of a metal that resists chemical corrosion.

The choice of the most suitable liner among the five different thermoplastics offered by Hürner Italia Srl depends on...

The technology of this application is based on shaping the liner with an identical profile to the surface to be lined; the coupling mat is soaked with a specific glue and, after due aging, the liner is pressed against the metal part to be lined and is allowed to fully polymerize and harden.

The backing systems are available in different materials like polyester, polypropylene, synthetic materials and glass. All of them, excluded the last one, are particularly suitable in case of hydro- fluoric - HF: in case of exudation, this acid may corrode the glass mat, therefore is not allowed the use of glass backing material.

The liners in the Hürner Italia Srl program are rigid or semi-rigid depending on the material.

Rigid thermoplastic materials for liners are:

  • polyethylene- PE 100 (polyester mat);
  • polypropylene homopolymer- PPH (polyester or polypropylene mat);
  • polypropylene block copolymer- PPR (glass mat);
  • polyvinilidene fluoride- PVDF (polyester or synthetic mat);
  • ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene- ECTFE (synthetic or glass mat).
  • fluoroethylepolypropylene- FEP (glass mat)

While semi-rigid thermoplastic materials for liners are:

  • polyvinyl chloride- PVC (without griping layer);
  • polyvinilidene fluoride - PVDF (synthetic mat).
  • perfluoroalcoxy- PFA (glass mat)

Laid-out liner are welded after the hardening with hot air welding tools and using the liner material as the filler material. In order to guarantee that welds are properly carried out and sealed, high tension check is carried out using a high frequency spark tester. This business line includes the following lines:

  • Lining of metal products: application of a rigid thermoplastic liner;
  • Lining of metal products: application of a semi-rigid thermoplastic liner.
